Dreams Do Come True!
On June 2, 2011 the Family Rescue Center held its new Health Office Dedication Ceremony.
In attendance were approximately one-hundred friends of FRC.
Guest speakers were Councilman, Dennis Zine,
Dr. Glenn Lopez, Director of Providence Mobil Clinic
Ron Sorenson, Director of Providence’s Community Partnerships.
It has long been a dream, nurturtured by the Family Rescue Center, to offer health related services for our clients. Finding the funds to add a room and a regulation-handicapped restroom, within the FRC facilities, was a problem, We couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and thought, here goes another year. However, seeing the merits of our dream, a group called Self-Development of People, a ministry if the Presbyterian Church (USA) came to our rescue.
Someone once said: ”If you have a dream, put feet on it and watch it go!” Our dream changed to hope. Hope became time, hard work, dedication and commitment by many, many people. We smile in wonder and humble gratitude as we are able to continue fulfilling our mission to serve the needy.
Long an advocate for community service, Providence Health and Services has partnered with the Family Rescue Center for seven (7) years. They send physicians to make presentations on nutrition, heart health, end of life issues and other topics.
Two Health Fairs are held every year for Iglesia Communidad Cristiana, the Family Rescue Center and Canoga Park Presbyterian Church. The last fair was on May 22 and the next one will be October 1, 2011. Providence provides the manpower, the machines, the testing strips, and educational materials. In addition, Providence helps with the follow-up of people who have abnormal findings by making sure those persons have access to health care.
Our new Health Office offers exciting opportunities for the clients of the Family Rescue Center. Initially, FRC will provide screenings, referrals, health education and pastoral counseling. These services will be free of charge.
Currently, the Family Rescue Center is reaching out to develop more partnerships with local agencies. In the future, we hope to offer assessments by the Child Development Institute, cancer screenings and support groups. The possibilities are endless!
